Maiya The Mahiya or Maiya or મહિયા ક્ષત્રિય are a Hindu caste found in the state of Gujarat in India. ✍🏻 “કનડાને રીસામણે”✍🏻   28મી જાન્યુઆરી, 1883. એ દિવસે જૂનાગઢના રસ્તે બળદગાડાની હારમાળા ચાલી આવતી હતી. ત્યારે બીજા વાહનો ન હતાં, એટલે બળદ જોતરેલા ગાડાંઓ જોવા મળે એ સ્વાભાવિક હતું. પણ ગાડામાં ભરેલો સામાન અલગ પ્રકારનો હતો. મનુષ્યોના મસ્તકો ખીચોખીચ ભર્યા હતાં, મસ્તકોમાંથી વહેતુ શોણિત રસ્તાને લાલ-તરબોળ કરી રહ્યુ હતું. એકથી વધારે ગાડાઓમાં 80 થી વધારે મસ્તકો ભર્યા હતાં. જમાદાર સુલેમાન જૂનાગઢ નવાબ મહાબતખાનને નજરાણુ ધરવા એ મસ્તકો લઈને આવી રહ્યા હતા. પણ ધડ વગરના એ શીશ હતાં કોનાં? * * * એ માથાં હતાં જૂનાગઢ નવાબ સામે ઉપવાસ-આંદોલને બેઠેલા મહિયા (મૈયા) રાજપૂતોના. અને એમના ધડ તો છેક ૩૫ કિલોમીટર દક્ષિણે આવેલા કનડાની ટોચે પડયા હતાં, નધણિયાતી અવસ્થામાં. ગીધ-સમડી જેવા હવાબાજો અને જંગલના આક્રમણખોર પશુઓ હવે એ મૃતદેહોની મિજબાની ઉડાવી રહ્યાં હતાં. પ્રખર ઈતિહાસકાર શંભુપ્રસાદ દેસાઈએ ‘કનડાના કેર’ નામે એ હત્યાકાંડની નોંધ કરી છે તો મેઘાણીએ જેને ‘કનડાને રિસામણે’ તરીકે આલેખ્યો છે, એ ક્રૂર હત્યાકાંડ સમજવા સવા-દોઢ સદી પહેલાના ઈતિહાસમાં જવુ પડશે.. વર્ષોથી સોરઠમાં મહિયા નામની વીર જાતિ વસે છે. મર્યાદિત વસતી ધરાવ

ગીગો મહિયો              - સોરઠની ધરતીનો સિંહ સોરઠી બહારવટિયા              - ઝવેરચંદ મેઘાણી આ ઐતિહાસીક વાત સોરઠના ખમીરવંતા ઈતિહાસમાં છુપાયેલી પડી છે, જેને આજે જોઈએ. દયા દાન ને દાતારી , માન મર્યાદા  ને મૉટપ , આ બધા લક્ષણો કુળ માં ઊતરી આવે સાહેબ , ઇ ચોપડા થોડા છે કે વાંચવામાં આવે ? વિર શહીદો અને શુરવીરો ની શું તાકાત, ત્યાગ અને  બલીદાન હતા ? એ આપણે જોઈએ સૌરાષ્ટ્રના ઇતિહાસની મહત્વની આવી ઘટના મિત્રો મેં અને તમે આ પ્રસંગને વાંચ્યો હશે, લોકસાહિત્યકારોના મુખેથી સાંભળેલ પણ હશે પણ હ્રદયનો એક ઉમળકો એક ભાવ એને વશ થઇ અહીં રજૂ કરું કરવા માગું છું ! આ વાત છે સોરઠના સિંહ એવા , મહિયા રાજપુત ,  ગીગા મહિયા ની  કે જેની એક વીર હાંકથી સોરઠની પ્રજા ફફડે ,  જેનું નામ પડતા ઘોડિયામાં સૂતા બાળકો શાંત થઇ જતા , જેનું નામ પડતા ગામના ઝાંપા દેવાય જતા , અને જેના નામથી મકરાણીઓના સુવાસ નિકળી જતા. પટેલીયા પરગણા તણા , જુનાણે રાવું જાય , ડણકે ડુંગરમાંય , ગાળે સાવજ ગીગડો .
